mydeco.com launches ‘mydeco Kitchenshop’, new marketplace ecommerce platform powered by Ixtens

London (UK) October 4th, 2010 – mydeco.com (http://mydeco.com) today announced the launch of the new ‘mydeco Kitchenshop’ – a new selection of kitchenware and accessories hand-picked by mydeco editors for design and value, which will be sold directly through the mydeco online basket. The Kitchenshop is a new venture for mydeco.com, the UK’s largest furniture and home design website, expanding the number of items available to purchase directly on mydeco.com through an ecommerce marketplace powered by Ixtens (http://ixtens.com).

mydeco Kitchenshop represents a new opportunity for manufacturers and retailers to sell direct to the consumer through the mydeco.com platform, and expands mydeco’s product offering by adding marketplace functionality. The Ixtens marketplace platform provides a standardized way for online retailers to manage supplier and drop-shipper relations, making it easy to expand their ‘virtual’ inventory. Ixtens co-founder and Chief Product Officer Eugene Nikiforov says “Ixtens delivers a platform that is helping mydeco.com to create the most convenient shopping experience in the home and garden vertical. It’s a great vision that we are happy to see become a reality.”

At launch, Kitchenshop includes ten manufacturers, representing over 2,500 products. mydeco.com CEO Nicole Vanderbilt comments “Launching a marketplace on mydeco.com cements our position as the best place to find the right item for your home, from the best possible range of retailers and manufacturers. In addition to our 1,500+ retailers, the Ixtens marketplace platform allows us to help our customers discover products from new brands and buy from multiple retailers in the same basket.”

As well as an increased number of specialist items sold directly through the mydeco basket, Kitchenshop will also enable mydeco.com to deliver unique product ‘bundles’ to customers at discounts of at least 20% off individual product RRP. The first manufacturer to work with mydeco to offer product ‘bundles’ is Sabichi, whose kitchenware and accessories have been packaged into ‘back to Uni’ bundles for students, providing all the essentials to equip a student kitchen at three price points (Basic, Premium and Deluxe) ranging from £52.50 for 14 kitchen basics to £142.50 for 19 deluxe items. The bundled packages represent savings of between 21% and 28% over the total cost of buying each item separately.

Nicole adds, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Sabichi to offer this exciting new range of product bundles, because we know that a huge part of why people shop online is convenience and value for money. These bundles make it possible to buy everything you need to equip a kitchen with one click – at a fantastic discount.”

Sabichi New Product Development Manager Emma Perruzza adds “The bundles we’ve put together with mydeco.com are ideal for students. Each and every item has been road-tested, so we’re confident that each package offers unbeatable value for money -something which is bound to be uppermost in student’s minds as they go back to Uni this month.”

mydeco.com plans to release a number of new product bundles over the coming months, focusing on kids baking accessories for the October half term, followed by entertaining bundles of glasses and barware for the Christmas season.

mydeco also plans to make it possible for shoppers to create their own bundles, combining items from different manufacturers into a ‘bundle’ to receive a discounted price at the checkout.
